Philadelphia Forces
(Play this Song)
I moved from the beach in St. Pete Beach Florida, to just outside of Philadelphia. Some dark forces had to be involved.
I was forced to Philadelphia
Forced to flee from some place nice
Forced to forget where I fell from
Forced to face that Philly ice
But what I found in Philadelphia
Was good folks filled with good faith
Forget the feelings I felt before
Philadelphia's my favorite place
I'm in love with Philadelphia
Want to ring that liberty bell
Got to shout it out from Independence Hall
I'm in love I'm doing well
Creative Juices
Earlier in my songwriting career I found that finishing a bottle of wine while writing greatly
increased my creativity. I now rely more on life's experiences. (Ok, so there still is a
little wine involved).
She says no more beer for breakfast
No morning wines to digest
Pure sobriety
Will be good for me
But Not creativally
Cuz I'm a different person
My communications worsen
When I'm alchohol free
She needs to understand me
And my creativity
It's not wine it's creative juices
Not wine it's what my mind uses
To open up and begin to really cut loose
My mind needs ... That creative juice
This song is sort of in a Jimmy Buffet style.
Ex-Father's Day
This song was written about the feeling of being a divorced father with kids, and watching the kids grow up without you.
See the kids
Growing up without me
I keep thinking
We could still be a family
They call me mom
When I get to see them
And I don't blame ‘em
I know that there's good reason
Jealousy of the situation
But I now know the reason for my separation.
Yes I know I made a bad mistake
By never understanding what it really takes
To be the dad
Sort of in a Harry Chapin style.
Manana, Don't Expect it Today
This song jumped into my head when I learned that the correct translation
of the Spanish word Manana actually is not 'tomorrow', but 'not today'.
I learned my Spanish down in Cancun
On my Mexican vacation
I learned that today is when you have some fun.
Manana is when the work gets done.
Manana … Is my favorite word from Mejico
Lo Comprendo
Cuz I don’t do today
What I can delay
When asked to get to it
I say I’ll do it
Manana
And to the Spanish that’s ‘que claro’
I’ll do it … Manana
Cuz I know it doesn’t mean tomorrow
Just not today
A mixture of Spanish and English sounds.
Long Distance Relationshsip
A song about dating someone that lives far away.
It's a long distance relationship
Like being a sailor on a sailing ship
Always going from port to port
Never seem to be at home no more
Since my love always fluctuates
Between far too many physical states
It's getting tough to know which state I'm in
I'm in a state of long distance confusion
Graduation
(Co-written by Biff Tate)
A song about a definite time for celebration ... when you graduate. But it also means it's time to get a job.
Caps and Gowns now
Walking down the aisle
Looking smart now
Walking single File
You're almost out now
You almost free
Just get up there now
And get that degree
No more testing
Spend all your evenings resting
Celebration
It's the end of education
Graduation
Now get a job
Isla Paradisa
This is about an island in Venezuela. The song is half Spanish and half English and describes a trip to this island in paradise.
Voy a Venezuela
Voy a encontrar chicas buenas
Pack some salt and lemon and I'll meet cha
En la Isla Margarita
Mi Isla Favorita
Una Isla de paridisa
In a place called Margarita Island
I know everybody's gonna be flyin
Pack some salt and lemon and I'll meet cha
En la Isla Margarita
Una Isla de paridisa
The song is a Spanish / Rock format.
Little Debbie
This song was written about my girlfreind ... Debra. (Really it was written about those tasty little cakes
... but don't tell her.)
Sugar and spices
Sweet cream and icing
Nothings more sweeter
Nothing as enticing
Nothing turns me on like she can
I'm a little little Debbie Debbie kind of Man
She's my sweet little Debbie
The icing on my cake
Better than little Debbie
You couldn't ever make
A Pirate Wanna Be
I want to be just like Jimmy Buffet, is the theme of this song. Who wouldn't. You get
to travel all over the world singing songs everyone loves.
So this pirate looks at 45
Hasn't even had a chili dog in paradise
And Never had any kind of mustach
Never had what Jimmy B has
I can't make up a word like fruitafull
Get slapped when I tell a girl she's not beautiful
So I just sit here and order another drink
Thinking about what Jimmy B would think.
Yeah I'm just a pirate wanna be
I wanna be just a little like Jimmy B
I wanna sing to a crowd with silly hats
I just wanna little bit of what Jimmy has
Heroes of the Zeros
Written in the late 1900s about who would be our heroes going into the next century.
Our Cow
I was asked to write a song about my pet. I didn't have a pet, so I wrote about the pet I
didn't have.
Senorita
Another Spanish / English song about one of my favorite latin subjects.
